The 2005 movie version of the award winning Broadway musical musical Rent starring Rosario Dawson, Adam Pascal, and Anthony Rapp as a group of friends in the East Village section of New York City during the late 1980's and early 1990's affected by the still new AIDS virus. The cast consists of a HIV positive drag queen, musician, and former junkie along with professional people including a landlord, lawyer, and computer genius. The film is rumored to be full of singing as if you were actually watching the play in your living room.
Rent the musical and its song 525,600 minutes inspired the musical "Lease" and its song "Everyone Has AIDS" in the 2004 war on terror puppet comedy Team America World Police. The East Village section of New York City can be explored in Grand Theft Auto IV (GTA IV) where it is known as Easton, Algonquin.
