Angela Bennett (Sandra Bullock) stumbled upon a government conspiracy and cover up in The Net back in 2005. After the conspirators find out that she knows what they know they launch a brutal internet stalking campaign to ruin her life by stealing her identity and framing her for crimes she did not commit.
This movie proved the potential of the internet as a life ruiner early on back when people still had slow modems that made an annoying beep every time they connected to the internet. It also demonstrated the potential harm to ones social life if they rely on the internet for friends because one you unplug they all go away.
